Hebert, a junior from Bourg, La., is the eighth Lion baseball player to earn the honor, joining previous winners Troy Melancon (1991-92), Jeff Williams (1995-96), Macky Waguespack (1998-99), Steve Trosclair (2000-01), Chris Province (2006-07), Wade Miley (2007-08) and Tyler Watkins (2010-11). The 2012 Southland Conference Player and Hitter of the Year, Hebert earned All-America honors from four different organizations, including Baseball America. A 14th round pick in the Major League Baseball Draft by the Seattle Mariners, he led the league with a .374 batting average, 58 runs scored and 36 stolen bases. His stolen base total ranked fifth nationally.
