Southeastern Takes Down HCU for Two Straight Wins

SLU's 40-point second half powers the Lady Lions to victory Saturday

HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University women's basketball team started a win streak with a 68-61 win over the HCU Huskies Saturday in the University Center.

Southeastern (4-18, 3-12 in SLC) outpaced HCU (6-16, 4-11 in SLC) in the fourth quarter, scoring 40 points in the second half to win back-to-back games.

Mia Ramos paced all players in Saturday's game with 14 points, behind four three-pointers. Aliyah Collins posted a 13-point-10-rebound double-double to help the team outrebound the Huskies. Fatime Seck and Bethany Graves each had nine points on the day. Natalie Huff totaled eight assists in the contest to lead the game.

Collins' 10 rebounds led all student-athletes Saturday, while Ramos led the team with two steals. Graves (6) and Wilkins (5) also contributed rebounds on the defensive end of the floor.

The Huskies had four double-digit scorers in Tove Caesar (13), Madison Hurta (13), Grace Booth (12), and Kamryn McLaurin (11), each reaching the mark. Hurta's three triples put the team ahead in the first quarter, before SLU fought back in the second half.

The Huskies held SLU to 28 points in the first half before Southeastern's offense scored 40 points in the latter half. After being down by six at halftime, Mia Ramos drained three three-pointers in the third quarter to help SLU reach a 20-point quarter, tying the game at halftime.

In the fourth quarter, Southeastern jumped ahead with a triple by Lihi Azouri. With under four minutes to go, Booth tied the game with a layup, then the Lady Lions scored 11 points the rest of the way to seal the win, including a tough shot by Huff that secured the win with 37 seconds left.
