Lady Lions’ Win Streak Snapped Thursday

SLU will continue its road trip in Natchitoches, La. Saturday

COMMERCE, Texas – The Southeastern Louisiana University women's basketball team was unable to overcome a strong fourth quarter by East Texas A&M for a 66-57 final score in The Field House Thursday.

Southeastern (4-19, 3-13 in SLC) kept pace with East Texas A&M (12-10, 8-7 in SLC) before the Lions broke free behind a 24-point final frame.

Aliyah Collins' 21 points led the team to give her the 17th double-digit game of the season. Mia Ramos and Lihi Azouri each notched 11 points to put them in double figures. Collins also collected seven assists, six rebounds, and a game-high three blocks, leading the Lady Lions in those marks. Aisha Marten-Coney posted a team-high three steals on the night.

East Texas A&M's Tiani Ellison's double-double of 22 points and 14 rebounds led the game. Cora Horvath pitched in 18 points, while her sister Nina Horvath collected a dozen points. The former Horvath and Ahmya Boyce each had four steals to tie for the team-leading mark.

A back-and-forth first quarter ended with the East Texas A&M on top. After SLU snagged a lead in the second behind a lockdown defense, the Lions managed a score in the final seconds to tie it at 22-all. The home team played a better second half on the offensive end, leading by three after the third quarter. After Southeastern cut the Lions' lead to one, a 15-0 run by the home team put the game out of reach.

SLU remain on the road for a matchup against Northwestern State, Saturday, at 1 p.m. The game will be televised on ESPN+.
