HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University women's basketball team hosted the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders Thursday night. The Islanders came away with the win, 76-69, in the University Center.
SLU (4-21, 3-15 in SLC) fought back from down 16 points against Texas A&M-Corpus (5-20, 4-14 in SLC) to start the team's two-game home stand. The Lady Lions forced 24 turnovers in the game but could not overcome the Islanders in the final minutes.
Aliyah Collins posted a career-high in points with 30 on the night, outdoing her previous best performance of 29 points in December. Collins also knocked down four three-pointers to lead the team.
Lihi Azouri was the only other Lady Lion in double figures, scoring 11 points in the game.
Natalie Huff's six steals led all players in the game, helping the team finish with 10 steals collectively.
Chelsea Wooten had game-highs in scoring and rebounding with 32 points and 13 rebounds. Wooten's five triples led the game, the last of which put the contest out of reach for the home team. K'Nari Holliday (12) and Torie Sevier (11) also notched double-digit points. Asha Walker was the only Islander with steals, swiping three on the night.
After going down 16 points in the second quarter, SLU fought back to earn a 57-55 edge with over six and a half minutes left in the fourth quarter. The Islanders managed to score 10 points in the final 90 seconds to win the game.
The Lady Lions will remain at home and host UTRGV, Saturday, at 1 p.m for Senior Day and the final home game of the season. The game will be televised on ESPN+. SLU will be celebrating and honoring its seniors
