HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University women's basketball team fell to New Orleans in another Southland Conference game Thursday, in a 64-63 back-and-forth contest.
SLU (2-11, 1-5 in SLC) played the second game of its two-game home stand Thursday against UNO (1-13, 1-5). Southeastern led by 16 points at halftime, before a strong Privateers third quarter turned the tables in favor of the visitors.
Lihi Azouri was the leading scorer of Thursday's game, scoring 19 points, while knocking down five threes.
Eryn McKinzie was second in the game with 18 points, 16 of which were scored in the first half.
Bethany Graves was tied for the game lead in rebounding, tallying 11 rebounds in the game, also scoring eight points. McKinzie was also a strong rebounder, reeling in 10 boards to get a double-double on the night.
New Orleans had three scorers in double figures with Jayla Kimbrough (14), Brialle Washington (12), and Lauren Banks (11) each notching the double-digit mark. Hailee Brennen was the Privateers' best rebounder, earning 11 rebounds in the game.
The Lady Lions dominated the first half of Thursday's game enroute to a 16-point advantage at halftime. The visitors outscored the Lady Lions, 24-9, in the third frame, getting within one to start the fourth. SLU brought the energy to start the fourth quarter, leading by 11 with five and half minutes left in the game, behind back-to-back Azouri triples. The Privateers took advantage of every opportunity down the stretch to turn the tide and narrowly win the game.
The Lady Lions will travel to Lake Charles, La. for the team's next game, facing McNeese (10-4, 4-1 in SLC) Saturday, at 1 p.m. The game will be televised on ESPN+ and can be heard on KSLU 90.9 The Lion, online at either
