Lady Lions Suffer Road Loss to McNeese Saturday

SLU is set for two road matchups next week

LAKE CHARLES, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University women's basketball team went on the road to take on McNeese, falling to the Cowgirls in a 77-55 decision.
 
SLU (2-12, 1-6 in SLC) played game one of the team's three-game road trip against McNeese (12-4, 6-1). The Cowgirls led from start to finish in Saturday's game, taking a strong lead in the first quarter.
 
Mia Ramos and Lihi Azouri tied for the team-leading mark in points at 16. The freshman from San Antonio, Texas, went 6-for-14 from the floor, knocking down four triples in a season-best performance. Nine of Azouri's 16 points came by way of the foul line, going 9-for-10 from the stripe. Aliyah Collins also got in double figures with 11 points in the game. Natalie Huff led the team with seven rebounds, while Ramos led the team in takeaways, totaling three steals.
 
Reigning Southland Conference Player of the Week Dakota Howard paced all players with 23 points Saturday. The freshman made 9 of 14 shots, also posting 10 rebounds for a double-double. Former Lady Lions Arianna Patton and Kaili Chamberlin had 15 points and 10 points, respectively. Patton also made a game-leading five three-pointers.
 
In addition to Howard's 10 boards, Tyreona Sibley brought in nine rebounds, contributing to McNeese's 40-rebound mark as a team. Howard also led the game in steals with four, while Jalencia Pierre had three of the team's 12 swipes.
 
The Lady Lions will continue their road trip with a visit to UTRGV (7-8, 4-2 in SLC) Thursday, at 6:30 p.m., in Edinburg, Texas.
