SLU Defeated in the University Center Saturday

Southeastern (2-10, 1-4 in SLC) lost a hard-fought match against SFA

HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University women's basketball team lost to Stephen F. Austin in an 87-72 decision Saturday.
 
SLU (2-10, 1-4 in SLC) returned to the University Center to face SFA (9-5, 1-4) in the first game of the calendar year. The Lady Lions led by double digits at halftime before a comeback by the Ladyjacks put the visitors ahead.
 
Aliyah Collins led the Lady Lions' offense Saturday, scoring 21 points, 13 of which were added in the first quarter. Lihi Azouri scored 16 for the second consecutive game, while Bethany Graves and Eryn McKinzie posted 10 points each. Collins also dished a team-high five assists.
 
McKinzie and Ross were SLU's leaders in the paint, contributing eight rebounds and seven rebounds, respectively. As a team, Southeastern had 10 steals with Bethany Graves, Mia Ramos, Collins, and Azouri each having two swipes.
 
SFA had five scorers reach a double-figure mark Saturday. Harmanie Dominguez scored a game-leading 24 points, including five three-pointers. Key Roseby (13), Lydia Cajuste (13), Cha Gardner (12), and Kaylinn Kemp (12) contributed at least a dozen points each. Gardner and Aziyah Farrier each had 10 rebounds, giving the former a double-double.
 
The Lady Lions put together a strong first half, forcing 15 SFA turnovers and leading by 11 points at halftime. After a third quarter review turned the tide of the game the Ladyjacks outplayed SLU in the second half of the game, scoring nine threes in the final 20 minutes to end the game with a 15-point advantage.
 
SLU will end its two-game homestand Thursday, when it takes on the University of New Orleans (0-13, 0-5) in the University Center, at 6 p.m. The game will be televised on ESPN+ and can be heard on KSLU 90.9 The Lion, online at either www.LionSports.net/listenlive or www.LionUpRadio.org, via the following apps – Lions Gameday Experience, Live365, iHeart, Audacy, TuneIn and MyTuner Radio - or on Alexa speakers (skill must be enabled first). Thursday's contest against UNO will be the Residential Life Rivalry Gold Out Game. Fans can wear gold and bring the energy to support the Lady Lions as they take on the Privateers in the University Center. Emma Lucio will be Thursday's Spotlight Player of the Game against UNO. The first 150 fans to attend the game will receive a trading card featuring the Edinburg, Texas native, courtesy of PRIDE.
