HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University women's tennis team closed out its home schedule with a 7-0 victory over Grambling Wednesday afternoon at the Southeastern Tennis Complex.
SLU (12-6) swept through singles and doubles play to claim the win. Grambling, which only had five players active Wednesday, fell to 2-10 overall.
"This was a good win for us today," Southeastern head coach
Jason Hayes said. "It was good to build some positive momentum heading into our final Southland Conference matches."
In doubles play, SLU's
Bente Bierma and
Panatchakorn Suanarsa (9-8) blanked Grambling's Ekaterina Dziova and Sofija Rajic, 6-0, on No. 1. On court 2, the Lion duo of
Aitana Darder and
Leana Gomez (9-5) was too much for Takudzwa Mawisire and Emmory Simmons, 6-1.
In singles play, Gomez (9-8) and Suanarsa (12-5) both extended their win streaks to three matches on courts 1 and 3 with straight-set victories.
Claudia Di Leonardo (8-10, No. 2), Bierma (5-12, No. 4) and
Aitana Darder (11-4, No. 5) also earned straight-set wins for the Lions.
Southeastern will return to SLC play Saturday, traveling to Stephen F. Austin for a noon match in Nacogdoches, Texas.
