Lions Fall to Nicholls, 5-2, in SLC Home Finale

SLU (11-6, 3-4 SLC) closes home slate versus Grambling Wednesday at 3 p.m.

HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University women's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to Nicholls in Southland Conference action Monday night at the Southeastern Tennis Complex.

SLU (11-6, 3-4 SLC) fell in its final conference home match of the 2024-25 season. Nicholls (7-11, 1-6 SLC) took the doubles point and clinched the match by winning four of six singles matches.

"Nicholls beat us in every phase and deserved this match," Southeastern head coach Jason Hayes said. "We have so many improvements to make as we move forward, but it starts with our on-court attitude and behavior."

Nicholls took the lead by winning the doubles point. The Colonels earned 6-3 wins on courts 1 and 2 to take a 1-0 lead.

On No. 1 in singles play, SLU's Leana Gomez (8-8, 2-5 SLC) earned a 7-5, 6-3 win over Nicholls' Aada Inna. However, Nicholls countered with straight-set victories on courts 3 and 6.

The other three singles matches were decided in three sets. Southeastern's Panatchakorn Suanarsa (11-5, 4-3 SLC) outlasted Julia Bordignon, 6-2, 6-7 (4-7), 12-10. The Colonels rallied from a set down to win on both courts 2 and 5 to close out the victory.

SLU will close out its home schedule Wednesday, hosting Grambling at 3 p.m. at the Southeastern Tennis Complex.
