Southeastern Drops Home Matchup Sunday

The Lady Lions (2-5) fell to Northwestern State in the team's second SLC game

HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University women's basketball team dropped a Southland Conference contest against Northwestern State in the University Center, 69-52.
 
Southeastern (2-5) hosted the Lady Demons (4-4) for the team's third home game of the season. Northwestern State snapped its losing streak, winning its first conference game Sunday.
 
For the second straight game, Aliyah Collins was the most productive offensive player for the Lady Lions, scoring a season-high of 23 points on 10-for-17 shooting in the loss. Collins, who made three triples, was the only SLU player in double-figures with Mia Ramos scoring nine points on 4-for-4 shooting.
 
The Lady Demons presented problems for the Lady Lions in the paint, outscoring SLU by 22 from that range. Vernell Atamah, NSU's leading scorer through eight games, tallied a 10-point 10-rebound double-double by the end of the first quarter. The sophomore ended the game with 22 points and a game-high 16 rebounds, including 11 boards off the offensive glass.
 
Northwestern State had three more players score in double figures with Tiara Abron (18), Clarence Djuela (12) and Carla Celaya (10) hitting the mark. The difference in Sunday's contest was second chance points with NSU scoring 28 to SLU's seven points.
 
The Lady Lions will continue SLC play when they visit Houston Christian Friday, Dec. 12, at 6 p.m. The game will be available to watch on ESPN+.
