SLU Loses to Memphis Saturday

Southeastern (2-7) fell to Memphis in the team's last home game of the calendar year

HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University women's basketball team dropped its non-conference matchup against the Memphis Tigers, 70-66, Saturday, in the University Center.

SLU (2-7) hosted the Tigers (5-7) for the team's final home game of the calendar year. Southeastern challenged the road team in the game, leading by a dozen at halftime, but Memphis came away with the win behind a strong third quarter.

Lihi Azouri got back to being Southeastern's leader on the offensive end of the floor. The freshman from Israel scored 22 points in the game. Natalie Huff (14) and Aliyah Collins (13) also scored in double figures for the Lady Lions.

Azouri was also SLU's rebounding leader, bringing in seven boards in Saturday's game. Erynn Williams also notched two steals in the game to lead the team. Fatime Seck scored eight points, while reeling in five rebounds, knocking down two three-pointers along the way, to contribute for the Lady Lions down the stretch.

Daejah Richmond led the game with 26 points on 9-for-16 shooting. Tamya Smith was Memphis' only other player to make a double-digit scoring mark, posting 14 points in the game. Smith also brought in 10 rebounds to give her a double-double on the day.

The Lady Lions played a solid first half behind Collins' and Azouri's 21 points, leading by 12 at the break. Memphis played a stronger third quarter, scoring 25 in that span to lead by one entering the fourth. The Lady Lions found a lead in the fourth quarter after a big three-pointer by Azouri, but Memphis closed it out to end its losing streak.
