HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University women's basketball team gained a 75-62 victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Saturday afternoon in the University Center to improve to 4-0 in Southland Conference play.

Veteran guard Alexis Horne (23 points) led all scorers with a phenomenal performance for Southeastern (10-3, 4-0 SLC) to continue to defend its home court at 5-0 this season. The Baton Rouge, La. native finished shooting 8-18 from the field, 5-9 from the three-point line and 2-2 from the free throw line. Horne also ended the afternoon tying a season high six assists to carry the Lady Lions.

Senior Taylor Bell (23 points) produced a season high with solid scoring in double figures with seven rebounds to cause Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (9-5, 1-2 SLC) trouble throughout the matchup. Bell contributed an electrifying performance shooting 8-15 from the field and 4-4 from the charity stripe. Cheyanne Daniels (19 points) followed up as the third Lady Lion in double-digit scoring after an exceptional game in front of the home crowd, finishing 87.5 percent from the field and 7-8 from the free throw line in the win.

Southeastern dominated the entire game against the Islanders with 40 points in the paint and 23 points off Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's 20 turnovers. Jalencia Pierre finished the game with a season high six steals to spearhead the Lady Lions' defense. SLU controlled the pace of the game as its defense smothered the Islanders for three consecutive quarters.

The Lady Lions came out to a slow start in the opening minutes of the game as Texas A&M-Corpus Christi gained an early lead as Paige Allen (16 points) and Annukka Willstedt (13 points) went to work in the first quarter. Southeastern quickly regrouped to Bell and Allasia Washington (four points) made an immediate impact off the bench to provide a spark to aid SLU in taking the lead late in the first quarter.

SLU continued to play with a chip on its shoulder forcing the Islanders into five quick turnovers to secure seven points off turnovers in the second quarter alone. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi weathered the early momentum from the Lady Lions shooting 50.0 percent from the field and 66.7 percent from the three-point line. Southeastern continued to pull ahead in the second quarter finishing around the rim with 10 points in the paint and five points off second chance opportunities. SLU gained a 14-point lead to close out the first half over the Islanders, 41-27.

Junior center Bruna Anguera (eight points) produced a spark for Texas A&M-Corpus Christi around the rim with eight rebounds and 4-4 from the field to end the afternoon. Anguera capitalized off easy dump down passes in the paint. Sophomore Tymberlin Criswell contributed eight points with an efficient performance, shooting 2-5 from the field and 3-4 from the free throw line to help the Islanders end the third quarter shooting 77.8 percent from the stripe. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi fought to cut into its deficit as it gained points off a few of Southeastern's turnovers in the quarter. SLU quickly dissolved any of the Islander's momentum late in the quarter as the Lady Lions finished with a 16-15-point advantage to end the third quarter 57-42.

Allen came alive in the fourth quarter to try and fuel a surge of momentum for the Islanders, but Southeastern's dominance in the previous quarters proved to be too much in hopes of catching up. Willstedt also worked to cut into the deficit at the free throw line, shooting 2-2 in the fourth quarter alone. SLU worked to keep its lead midway in the quarter as it continued to work in the paint and rely on its defense. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's spark midway in the fourth quarter proved to be short-lived as the Lady Lions closed out the game with a 13-point lead, 75-62.

SLU finished the game shooting 45.0 percent from the field, 50.0 percent from the three-point line and 73.7 percent from the free throw line.
