Lions Drop Final Non-Conference Contest

HAMMOND, La. – South Alabama defeated the Southeastern Louisiana University baseball team, 13-1, in seven innings Tuesday in non-conference action at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field.

The Jaguars (30-22) came out swinging in the final non-conference contest for both squads, picking up four runs in the first inning before an out was recorded. They would add four more in the third and two additional runs in both the fourth and fifth before Southeastern (26-25) scratched across its only run.

USA reliever Cooper Cooksey walked Rhett Rosevear to lead off the fifth. After hitting pinch-hitter Christian Garcia with a one-out pitch, Cooksey issued a two-out walk to TJ Salvaggio to load the bases. Jeremy Rader reached on a wild pitch after striking out, allowing Rosevear to score from third.

Conner O'Neal broke up the no-hit bid in the sixth with a leadoff double to right field.

South Alabama starting pitcher Zach Stevens (1-0) earned the win, tossing four shutout innings. Will Kinzeler (1-5) suffered the loss for the Lions.
