MCCOMB, Miss. – The Southeastern Louisiana University women's tennis team opened a two-match road swing with a 4-0 nonconference loss to Wyoming in a neutral site match in McComb, Mississippi.
Southeastern (5-7) took three of its singles matches to three sets in a very competitive match versus the Cowgirls (9-6). Teaming for the first time this season, the Lion pair of
Bogi Csordas and Panatacharkorn Suanarsa earned a doubles victory to highlight SLU's effort.
"Wyoming is a very good team and we were encouraged by our effort tonight," Southeastern head coach
Jason Hayes commented. "Across the board, this was probably our best performance of the spring thus far."
Csordas and Suanarsa earned a 6-4 win over the Wyoming duo of Serina Abriola and Adel Ismagulova on court 3. However, the Cowgirls earned wins on the top two doubles courts to take a 1-0 lead.
Straight-set victories on the top two singles courts extended the Wyoming lead to 3-0. Three other singles matches went to three sets.
On No. 3, SLU's
Bente Bierma led Violetta Borodina, 6-4, 6-7 (3-7), 2-0, when the match was decided. Suanarsa was deadlocked with Jeselle Ante on court 5, 3-6, 6-2, 3-3. Lion freshman
Claudia Di Leonardo lost a hard-fought 3-6, 6-2, 7-5 decision on No. 4 to allow Wyoming to clinch the match.
