HAMMOND, La. – Southeastern Louisiana University freshmen
Taisia Bolsova and
Claudia Di Leonardo earned singles victories, but it was not enough as the Lion tennis team dropped a 4-2 decision to Southland Conference foe UIW Sunday night at the Southeastern Tennis Complex.
Southeastern fell to 5-6 overall and 0-2 in Southland Conference play. The visiting Cardinals improved to 4-8 overall and evened its league record at 1-1.
UIW took a 1-0 lead with wins on the No. 1 and 2 doubles courts. SLU evened the match when Di Leonardo (2-5, 1-1 SLC) got past McKenzy Byfield, 6-0, 6-1, on the No. 5 singles court.
The Cardinals pulled back ahead with a straight-set win on court 1. Bolsova (4-3, 1-0 SLC) tied the match at 2-2, besting Barbara Havlova, 6-3, 6-2, on No. 6.
However, Southeastern would get no closer. UIW earned straight-set wins on courts 2 and 3 to clinch the win.
