SLU Falls at NJIT

Southeastern returns to action Sunday, facing Bryant at 9 a.m.

NEWARK, N.J. – The Southeastern Louisiana University women's tennis duo of Taisia Bolsova and Panatchakorn Suanarsa earned a doubles victory, but it was not enough for SLU in a 7-0 loss to Southland Conference foe NJIT Friday afternoon at the Naimoli Center.

While the match did not count in the SLC standings, it could be used to determine seeding in the conference tournament. SLU (1-4) dropped two of three doubles matches, then the host Highlanders (3-1) swept through singles play.

Bolsova and Suanarsa evened their spring doubles record to 2-2 with a 6-3 victory over Sandra Dzhambazov and Sofia Pinedo on the No. 2 doubles court. However, NJIT answered with wins on courts 1 and 3 to take a 1-0 lead.

While NJIT won all six singles matches, three were decided in three sets. On No. 2, SLU's Leana Gomez was outlasted by Dzhambazov, 4-6, 7-5, 7-6 (7-2).

Southeastern's Bente Bierma had her two-match singles win streak snapped on court 4, as Shalom Salvi rallied for a 1-6, 6-2, 6-4. On No. 5, Suanarsa dropped a 4-6, 6-3, 10-4 decision to Irene Cocero.

The Lions will close out their East Coast trip with a 9 a.m. contest versus SLC foe Bryant Sunday in Newark, New Jersey.
