HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University women's tennis team extended its win streak to three matches with a 5-2 nonconference victory over Southern Thursday evening at the Southeastern Tennis Complex.
SLU (4-4) evened its record, winning the doubles point and then taking four singles matches in straight sets to earn the win.
"We keep taking advantage of our opportunities to get better and we're seeing different people step up," Southeastern head coach
Jason Hayes said. "Our in-match decision making is certainly still a work in progress, but I continue to be pleased with our effort and the fight we show every time out."
Southeastern shook up its doubles pairings to positive results Thursday, as two first-time teams helped give SLU a 1-0 lead. On court 2,
Bente Bierma and
Alba Perez (1-0) earned a 6-2 win over Paris Washington and Kai Wince. The SLU duo of
Bogi Csordas and
Alba Perez (1-0) cruised past Baluck Deang and Shahd Habib, 6-3, on No. 3.
Bierma (4-4) gave Southeastern a 2-0 lead, defeating Jessica Hess, 6-1, 6-4, on court 4. On No. 2, Gomez (4-2) won her third straight match, topping Washington, 6-1, 6-3.
Perez (2-5) clinched the match with her second straight singles win on the top singles court, outlasting Wince, 6-3, 6-2. Southern earned its first point with a singles win on No. 3.
Taisia Bolsova (3-3) closed out the scoring for SLU, besting Olivia Jenkins, 7-5, 6-1, on No. 6.
Southeastern will close out the pre-Southland Conference portion of its schedule Sunday with a 2 p.m. at Dillard.
