HOUSTON, Texas – The Southeastern Louisiana University women's soccer team suffered a 3-0 loss against HCU in Sorrels Field Sunday afternoon.
Southeastern (6-7-1, 5-3 SLC) gained its third loss in conference play after struggling to match the intensity of HCU (4-8-5, 2-3-3 SLC) early in the match. Lady Lion goalkeeper
Kendall Curran finished with a busy afternoon in the net to close out with five saves.
SLU came out to a flat start in the opening minutes of the contest as HCU gained an aggressive edge on their home field. The Huskies battled to win the majority of the 50/50 balls in the first half of the match to spark a surge of momentum. HCU's leading scorer Olivia Rossman found the bottom right corner of the net in the 15
th minute of the match to attain a 1-0 lead.
The Lady Lions fought to formulate an offensive counter, but the Huskies kept its pressure up high to limit SLU's passes. With all the momentum, HCU doubled its lead in the 24
th minute of the match with a goal by Emily Jaimes. Jaimes broke free with an assist by Adi Radwanski to record her third goal of the season.
The Huskies ended the first half with eight shots, one corner kick, three shots on goal and five fouls. Southeastern acquired three yellow cards in the first half alone to go into halftime with zero shots and corner kick opportunities.
Southeastern battled to cut into the deficit in the second half with a few counter attack opportunities, but could not capitalize. The Huskies returned from the break with the same intensity to interrupt any charge of momentum for the Lady Lions.
Olivia Rossman connected in the net for the second time in the match in 88
th minute to tally her sixth goal of the season. Sophomore Lia Bonet found Rossman late into the contest to extend HCU's lead, 3-0. HCU goalkeeper Chloe Bagshaw played the entire duration of the match and ended with zero saves in the win.
HCU finished the match with 16 shots, one corner kick, eight shots on goal and 10 fouls. Rossman, Jaimes and Katie Marker each led the Huskies with a pair of shots on goal.
SLU completed the match against HCU with one shot, zero corner kicks, and 13 fouls. A total of 17 Lady Lions saw action in the contest on the road.
SLU will return to Hammond, America to suit up against UTRGV Friday evening at 7 p.m. in Strawberry Stadium. Friday's match will be streamed on ESPN+. The Lady Lions welcome all former players back to the pitch to celebrate its Alumni Game in Strawberry Stadium. All former players will be recognized during halftime of Friday's match. Southeastern also welcomes all of its players' family and friends to Parents Weekend.
