HAMMOND, La. - The Southeastern Louisiana University women's soccer team tied 1-1 against new conference member UTRGV Friday evening in Strawberry Stadium.
Southeastern (6-7-2, 5-3-1 SLC) battled the entire duration of the contest to close out its ninth conference match with a split decision.
Emma Ramsey found the net as SLU clinched its spot in the Southland Conference Soccer Tournament.
The Lady Lions came out the gate with high intensity over the visiting Vaqueros to set the pace of the match in the opening minutes. Ramsey connected in the net for her first goal of the season in the eighth minute to put Southeastern ahead, 1-0. Ramsey broke free as senior

UTRGV (7-4-5, 3-1-4 SLC) fought to cut into its early deficit, but the Lady Lions defense continued to intensify its pressure. Yoder stepped up big for Southeastern with a solid defensive performance to limit the Vaqueros' opportunities in the first half. The Lady Lions kept UTRGV off the board for the entire first half of the contest, only allowing four shots.
SLU gained a 7-4 shot advantage to close out the first half along with a 5-1 edge in corner kick opportunities. UTRGV goalkeeper Kamilia Aguilar and Lady Lions goalkeeper

UTRGV returned from the halftime break with a new found sense of urgency to match Southeastern's first half aggression. In the 50
th minute of the match, Savannah Frisby equalized the game 1-1 to attain her seventh goal of the season. The Vaqueros worked to capitalize off the shift of momentum in the second half with a 7-2 shot advantage and 2-1 edge in corner kicks.
The Lady Lions composed multiple hustle plays midway in the second half seeking to gain a lead, but UTRGV tightened up its defense to limit any opportunities around the net. Southeastern closed out the match with nine shots, six corner kicks and four fouls. Senior
Katie Brown led the Lady Lions with two shots on goal. Curran finished with a busy night in the net to tie her season high of seven saves.
