The Lady Lions fall 1-0 to the Islanders in its final conference match. Nine seniors were honored during Senior Day for their contributions to the program.

HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University women's soccer team fell short in its final conference match with a 1-0 loss to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in Strawberry Stadium Sunday afternoon.

Southeastern (6-8-2, 5-4-1 SLC) held Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (8-4-5, 5-2-2 SLC) scoreless the entire first half, but could not bounce back as the Islanders gained a second half surge midway into the match. Southeastern goalkeeper Kendall Curran played 62 minutes in the net to record her fourth game this season with five saves. Senior Anna Blankenship also spent 27 minutes in the net with one save.

The Lady Lions came out to a slow start in the opening minutes of the match. Both teams worked to take the upper hand in controlling the pace of the contest. Midway into the first half Southeastern gained a spark of momentum securing an edge over the Islanders with a 4-2 shot advantage and two corner kicks.

Southeastern returned from the halftime break with more aggression on its counter attacks to pressure Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's defensive back line. SLU attempted three narrow misses around the net early in the second half in hopes to secure an early lead.

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi turned the tide of momentum in its favor midway in the second half fueled by forward Storm Harris. The Islanders broke free in the 66th minute of the match with a goal by Rachel Loetzer to claim a 1-0 lead over the Lady Lions. Loetzer recorded her third goal of the season for Texas A&M-Corpus Christi from an assist by Ashley Wilson.

SLU fought to gain solid opportunities around the net, but the Islanders held its defensive front. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi valued each possession and worked the clock the remainder of the match to secure the victory. The Islanders closed the contest with 11 shots, five corner kicks, 11 fouls, and seven shots on goal led by Harris. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi goalkeeper Zoe Theriot played all 90 minutes in the net and ended with three saves in its victory.

Southeastern battled to equalize the match with eight shots taken in the second half alone, but could not convert. The Lady Lions finished with 12 shots led by Nicole O'Neill, four corner kicks, seven fouls and three shots on goal. A total of 19 Lady Lions saw action in their final conference match at home.
