HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University women's soccer team will host West Florida to close out its non conference schedule Friday at 5 p.m. in Strawberry Stadium.
Southeastern (4-2-1) will face West Florida (3-0) in its final non conference home match of the season. Friday's match against the Argonauts will be televised on ESPN+ and live stats can be accessed on the women's soccer schedule at www.LionSports.net.
The Lions will seek to regain their momentum from the 3-1 road victory over Southern before falling 3-1 against South Alabama. SLU posted a solid win over the Southern Jaguars as senior Brooke Opferman recorded her second multi goal match with two goals to claim the game winner on the road. Sophomore Alex Knight secured the final goal against Southern to extend the green and gold's lead while also gaining the lone goal versus South Alabama to aid in avoiding the shutout.
SLU has recorded 16 goals this season led by Knight with five goals, surpassing her career high late in non conference. The Shreveport, La. native has posted 10 shots with six shots on goal while Opferman follows as the second leading scorer for the green and gold with four goals, 17 shots and eight shots on goal. Senior Ella Quinlan also joins the duo with a game winner this season, securing two goals. Kendall Curran has handled the majority of the responsibilities in the net for the green and gold, starting all seven matches with 16 saves.
West Florida extended its winning streak with an undefeated record, defeating Troy 3-1 Monday afternoon on the road. The Argonauts also gained wins over fellow conference foe McNeese and Stetson this season as they continue their five-match road stretch. West Florida has posted eight goals this season led by graduate student Eva Mowery and senior Lucia Revuelto with two goals apiece.
Mowery and Revuelto combine for 14 shots and eight shots on goal for the Argonauts as Kaitlyn Herb, Dolev Ovadya and Olof Thorvaldsdottir have also connected in the net. Graduate student Karla Guzman-Ortiz has handled all the responsibilities in the net for West Florida this season with 15 saves and a 0.67 goals against average.
Concluding Friday's match, Southeastern will remain home to enter Southland Conference play as conference rival McNeese will travel to Hammond, America. The Lions will host the Cowgirls Thursday, Sept. 17 at 7 p.m. in Strawberry Stadium. Fans are encouraged to support SLU as the first fans in attendance will receive a free soccer scarf.
