SLU Shuts Out Southern to Open Road Swing

Southeastern (2-3) returns to action Sunday at Jackson State

BATON ROUGE, La.  – The Southeastern Louisiana University women's tennis team swept singles and doubles play on the way to a 7-0 victory at Southern Saturday afternoon.
 
Southeastern (2-3) won its second straight match, earning lopsided wins in doubles and six straight-set victories.
 
"This was a good win for us," SLU head coach Jason Hayes said. "We continue to work hard, support each other and improve each time out."
 
In doubles play, Putri Insani and Flory Bierma (3-2) won their third straight doubles match with a 6-0 win over the Lady Jaguar pair of Takalani Molaoa and Agye Mintah on the No. 1 court. On court 2, SLU's Gabrielle Dekkers and Panatchakorn Suanarsa (3-2) were too much for Paris Washington and Kai Wince in a 6-1 victory that gave SLU a 1-0 lead.
 
Insani, the reigning Southland Conference Player of the Week, remained undefeated this spring and improved to 5-0 with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Washington on the No. 1 court. Carla Del Barrio won her fourth straight singles match for SLU, while Dekkers, Bierma, Alba Perez and Bogi Csordas each earned their second straight singles victory.
 
Dekkers (3-2) handled Molaoa, 6-3, 6-0, on No. 2, while Del Barrio (4-1) moved past Wince, 6-4, 6-3, on court 3. On No. 4, Perez (2-1) rolled past Olivia Jenkins, 6-1, 6-1.
 
Bierma (3-2) earned a 6-2, 6-1 win over Sasha Taruberekera on court 5. Csordas completed the shutout with a 6-0, 6-0 victory on No. 6 over Trinyty Turner.
 
Southeastern will return to action Sunday with a 1 p.m. match versus Jackson State.
