HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University women's soccer team closed its three-game home stretch with a 1-0 loss Sunday evening against Lamar.
Southeastern (3-8, 1-3) fell behind in the second half, but held the Cardinals (9-2-1, 4-0) scoreless for the entire first half of the match. Lady Lion goalkeeper
Olivia Griffin finished with six saves after playing all 90 minutes.
SLU looked to execute in valuing possessions, and showcased a strong defensive effort to keep SLC top ranked Lamar out the net for 50 minutes. The Lady Lions attempted four shots with two narrow misses on goal. The Cardinals would receive a red card in the 26th minute of the contest limiting them to ten players, but Southeastern would not capitalize off the penalty.
Lamar wasted no time taking the early lead returning from halftime. Isela Ramirez scored off an assist from Hollie Massey and Cariel Ellis five minutes into the second half to give the Cardinals a 1-0 advantage. Lamar finished the match with 13 total shots and seven shots on goal.
The Cardinals launched five shots in the second half, but Southeastern would not allow them to extend their lead.
The Lady Lions will return to action Friday, traveling to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi for their fifth conference game of the season in a 7 p.m. match.
