SLU Falls to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on the Road

Southeastern travels to face UIW Sunday in a 2 p.m. contest.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Southeastern Louisiana University women's soccer team began its two-game road swing with a 1-0 loss at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Friday evening at Dr. Jack Dugan Stadium.
 
Southeastern (3-9, 1-4) fell behind in the second half of play, but kept the Islanders (5-5-3, 2-2-1) scoreless for 76 minutes of the contest. SLU goalkeeper Olivia Griffin was shaken up during the match, but remained in protection of the net to finish with three saves.
 
SLU began the match working to push up the field with three shots taken in the 1st half. The Lady Lions held a 5-4 advantage in shots on goal over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, but could not connect with slight misses.
 
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi secured the lead with twelve minutes remaining in the match. Rachel Loetzer scored her third goal of the season off an assist from Emmie Barton to give the Islanders a 1-0 advantage in the second half. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi goalkeeper Zoe Theriot played all 90 minutes with five saves.
 
Continuing to remain aggressive, Southeastern would hold a 6-5 edge in shots over the Islanders in the second half with one extra corner kick opportunity. Though the Lady Lions would get no closer to closing the deficit.
 
Southeastern will return to action Sunday, traveling to UIW for a 2 p.m. contest.
