HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University women's soccer team will enter Southland Conference play on the road against UTRGV Sunday at 11 a.m. at the UTRGV Soccer and Track & Field Complex.
SLU (1-4-2) visits Edinburg, Texas to begin league play against the Vaqueros (3-5-1). Sunday's match will be televised on ESPN+ and live stats, provided by the hosts, can be accessed on the women's soccer schedule page at www.LionSports.net.
Southeastern is seeking to build off its first win of the season against Southern to close non-conference play. The Lady Lions secured a 2-0 victory over the Lady Jaguars to secure their first match with over one goal. Reigning SLC Defensive Player of the Week Ella Quinlan claimed the game winner against Southern as she connected in the net for the first goal of her career to give SLU the advantage. Senior Emma Ramsey followed up in the final minutes of the match to extend Southeastern's lead at home. Goalkeeper Kendall Curran ended the night with three saves while protecting the net to hold the Lady Jaguars scoreless.
The Lady Lions step into their conference schedule with six goals, 27 shots on goal, 56 shots and 44 saves.
UTRGV started SLC play 0-1 against Northwestern State Thursday evening after falling 2-0. The Vaqueros are looking to bounce back on their home field before embarking on a two-match road stretch. UTRGV has recorded 22 goals so far this season led by sophomore forward Lisa Elowsson with five goals. The Vaqueros have posted 120 shots, 28 shots on goal and 16 assists. Junior goalkeeper Emilia Compian handles the majority of the responsibility in net for UTRGV with 19 saves and a 1.58 goals against average.
Concluding Sunday's match, Southeastern will return to Hammond, America to host SFA Thursday, Sept. 25 at 7 p.m. The match against the Lady Lumberjacks will be streamed on ESPN+.
