HAMMOND, La. – Southeastern Louisiana University redshirt sophomore Ella Quinlan was named Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Week, in an announcement by the conference office Tuesday morning.

Quinlan is the first of the Lady Lions to earn the SLC weekly honors as the award is the first of the defender's career.

The Covington, La. native connected in the net in Southeastern's 2-0 victory over Southern at home last weekend. Quinlan's goal claimed the game winner for SLU and helped to earn its first win of the season. With the goal against the Lady Jaguars, Quinlan recorded the first goal of her career for the green and gold.

Quinlan, along with Southeastern's defensive effort, aided in holding Southern scoreless to deliver its first shutout of the season. The defender has played in all seven matches this season, with her first career start against the Lady Jaguars. Quinlan has stepped up so far this season for SLU with two points, four shots, three shots on goal, and a 75.0 shots on goal percentage.

The Lady Lions will travel to Edinburg, Texas to open league play against UTRGV Sunday at 1 p.m. The match against the Vaqueros will be streamed on ESPN+.
