LORMAN, Miss. – Southeastern Louisiana University's
Polina Paunova,
Kate Oborina and
Flory Bierma all won in singles play to key SLU's 4-1 victory over Alcorn State in nonconference women's tennis action Sunday morning at the ASU Tennis Complex.
SLU (3-15, 1-5 Southland) opened the day by taking the doubles point. On No. 1, Bierma and
Putri Insani (9-3) handled Mikaela Konstantinov and Aizat Zoldakayeva, 6-3. Teaming for the first time this spring, Paunova and
Polina Sleptsova gave SLU a 1-0 lead with a 6-4 win over ASU's Stefany Grlj and Jaime Edwards.
An Alcorn State win on No. 3 tied the match. Paunova made short work of Kimberly Kaome on the No. 2 singles court with a 6-0, 6-0. On No. 4, Oborina swept past Grlj, 6-3, 6-1.
Bierma clinched the victory, defeating Veronica Rodriguez, 7-5, 6-1 on the No. 5 singles court.
Southeastern opened the weekend with a 7-0 loss in its Southland Conference finale at New Orleans Saturday. The Privateers (11-8, 4-2 SLC) swept through singles and doubles play in the win.
Southeastern hosts Southern next Tuesday at 4 p.m. at the Southeastern Tennis Complex in the Lions' regular season finale.
