LAKE CHARLES, La. – Putri Insani continued her winning ways in singles and doubles play, but it was not enough as the Southeastern Louisiana University women's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to McNeese in Southland Conference action Friday afternoon at the Nancy Hank Tennis Center.
SLU (2-14, 1-3 SLC) lost two of three doubles matches and five singles matches in the loss. McNeese (3-13, 1-3 SLC) picked up its first league win of the spring.
"We played hard today and had our chances," Southeastern head coach
Jason Hayes said. "But give McNeese credit for playing the big points better."
Insani and
Flory Bierma (8-2, 3-0 SLC) remained unbeaten in conference matches on the No. 1 doubles court. The top Lion duo won its sixth straight match, defeating Yukina Abe and Natalia Ballo, 6-2. However, the Cowgirls won on the other two doubles courts to take a 1-0 lead.
On the top singles court, Insani (6-4, 4-1 SLC) was too much for Matilde Mulatero in a 6-4, 6-2 victory. McNeese clinched the match with straight-set wins on courts 3, 4 and 5.
On No. 2, SLU's
Polina Paunova pushed Carlotta Romito in a 6-1, 3-6, 10-6. McNeese's Ariana Monlleo Sanchis had to rally past Lion freshman
Bogi Csordas, 3-6, 7-6, 10-4, on No. 6.
SLU will return home to host Dillard Wednesday at 4 p.m. at the Southeastern Tennis Complex.
