HAMMOND, La. – Southeastern Louisiana University junior
Putri Insani won in both singles and doubles play, but it was not enough as the Lion women's tennis team dropped a 4-2 nonconference decision to Jackson State Saturday morning at the Southeastern Tennis Complex.
Southeastern (1-9) continues to play without multiple injured starters as Southland Conference play approaches. Jackson State improved to 5-2 overall with Saturday's victory.
SLU took the lead by claiming the doubles point. On the top court, Insani and
Flory Bierma took down Sherine Salem and Tyra-Nicole White, 7-5. The Southeastern pairing of
Bogi Csordas and
Polina Paunova clinched the 1-0 advantage for the Lions with a 7-6 (8-6) victory over Jackson State's Natalya Ogunwale and Zeina Shaban on No. 2.
JSU flipped the momentum in singles play. Insani handled Salem, 6-4, 6-1 on the No. 1 court. But the Lady Tigers earned wins on courts 2,3,5 and 6 to clinch the victory. Bierma was up comfortably in the third set on No. 4 when the match was decided.
Southeastern will close out its preconference schedule on Sunday, hosting LSU Alexandria at 11 a.m. at the Southeastern Tennis Complex.
