THIBODAUX, La. – Southeastern Louisiana University junior
Putri Insani continued her winning streaks on the singles court and on the doubles court with teammate
Flory Bierma, but Nicholls was able to earn a 5-2 win over the Lions in Southland Conference women's tennis action Saturday afternoon at the Colonel Tennis Complex.
Southeastern (1-12, 0-2 Southland) took the doubles point, but Nicholls (9-5, 1-0 Southland) won five of six singles matches to claim the victory.
SLU dominated doubles play to take the early lead. On the top court, Insani and Bierma (6-1, 1-0 SLC) extended their win streak to five matches with a 6-1 win over Jessie Mount and Laura Lopez. The Lion freshman duo of
Sonya Kanarskaya and
Polina Paunova (1-1, 1-1 SLC) clinched the 1-0 advantage with a 6-0 victory over Nicholls' Carla Bouygues and Constanza Cruz.
Insani (4-2, 2-0 SLC) was too much for Simona Maksimovic on the No. 1 singles court, running her singles win streak to four matches with a 6-4, 6-3 victory. Nicholls countered with straight-set victories on the other five singles courts to claim the win.
Southeastern will return to action on Friday, hosting Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 1 p.m. at the Southeastern Tennis Complex.
