SLU Falls in Southland Opener to Northwestern State

Southeastern returns to action Wednesday, hosting Southern at 4 p.m.

HAMMOND, La. – Southeastern Louisiana University junior Putri Insani won at No. 1 singles, but the Lions dropped their Southland Conference opener, 6-1, to Northwestern State in league women's tennis action Saturday afternoon at the Southeastern Tennis Complex.

The Lions fell to 1-11 overall and 0-1 in league play with Saturday's loss. The visiting Lady Demons improved to 8-4 overall and 1-0 in conference play with the victory.

Northwestern State took the doubles point with wins on the No. 2 and 3 courts. Insani and Flory Bierma, who are 5-1 this spring with a four-match win streak, led on court 1 when the doubles point was decided.

On the feature singles court, Insani (3-1) was too much for Rozalie Donalova in a 6-3, 6-2 victory. However, NSU took straight-set victories on the remaining five courts to secure the win.

Southeastern will return to action Wednesday, hosting Southern at 4 p.m. in nonconference action at the Southeastern Tennis Complex.
