MCCOMB, Miss. – The Southeastern Louisiana University women's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision to Wyoming in nonconference action Saturday afternoon at the FitLife SportsPlex.
Southeastern (0-2) played with just five available players in singles play. Wyoming (3-4) swept the Lions in both singles and doubles play.
"We played hard and had a great attitude, but this opening stretch of our schedule is tough," SLU head coach
Jason Hayes commented. "We're not at full strength, but as we get back healthy we'll continue to improve."
Doubles was competitive with the Lady Lions dropping a 6-4 decision on No. 1, while the No. 2 and 3 courts were both decided by a 6-3 score.
Flory Bierma led 3-0 in the opening singles set on No. 4, before having to retire. A default win on No. 6, coupled with straight-set victories on the remaining courts propelled Wyoming to the shutout win.
Southeastern will continue its season-opening road swing with a 1 p.m. match at South Alabama on Feb. 11 in Mobile, Alabama.
