MOBILE, Ala. – The Southeastern Louisiana University women's basketball team took home a victory Tuesday night against South Alabama 64-40 in Mobile, Ala in the Mitchell Center.
The Lady Lions (3-2) now improve their record by another road victory after coming off two hard losses last week against Utah and San Diego State.
Taylor Bell was a standout Lady Lion as she led Southeastern in scoring with 17 points throughout the game.
Chrissy Brown also had a great game coming off the bench, hitting double-doubles with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Hailey Giaratano also stacked the stat sheet with 14 points, three rebounds and one assist.
South Alabama's star player for Tuesday's game was Kelsey Thompson with 15 points, six rebounds and one sole assist throughout the game.
. The Lions started out with no baskets in the first two minutes of the game unlike previous performances. Southeastern could be seen finally getting comfortable on the hardwood as they were finally able to take the lead 8-5 in the last two minutes of the first quarter. Bell was able to get in her first points of the game with a little less than a minute left in the first period. Lions took charge with a 13-7 lead.
Jenn Pierre joined in on the action with some behind the back action and has an assist for Taylor bell as she sunk in a jump shot in the second quarter.
Chrissy Brown leads with six points in the first half with 7:49 left in the half. USA tried to up the tempo but Southeastern kept up nicely yet neither team had been able to hit a three at all during the first half until USA's Kelsey Thompson sunk in her first point and three at the 6:53 mark in the second period.
After halftime,
Daija Harvey put her first third three pointer, leading the Lady Lions in points above the arc.
SLU continued to control the ball throughout the fourth quarter as their confidence grew. They increased their lead to a 24-point lead which has been their second largest lead so far this season.
Alexius Horne was able to get in some minutes and baskets as she was able to make some field goals in the early part of the fourth quarter.
Southeastern would close out the game with a jump shot by Brown in the last two minutes of the game and a defensive rebound by freshman
Allasia Washington as the clock winded down and the Lady Lions took home the win.
The Lady Lions had a 39.1% shooting average compared to South Alabama's 26.5%. Southeastern also had 22 points scored off the bench, 64 possessions and a 47% scoring average.
