HAMMOND, La. – Southeastern Louisiana dropped a 6-1 decision to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in Southland Conference women's tennis action Sunday afternoon at the Southeastern Tennis Complex.
 
The Lions (5-6, 1-3 Southland) opened the match strong by taking a competitive doubles point. However, the Islanders (13-3, 3-1 Southland) answered by winning all six singles matches to take the victory.
 
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi took the early advantage in doubles with a win on No. 2. On No. 1, the SLU pair of Putri Insani and Ximena Yanez (8-2, 2-1 Southland) evened it up with a 6-3 win over Emma Honore and Kei Kato.
 
The point came down to the No. 3 court. The new Southeastern duo of Katya Cornejo and Polina Sleptsova (3-0, 3-0 Southland) outlasted Maria Maldonado and Jordan Ortega-Mendez, 7-5, to give SLU a 1-0 lead.
 
The Islanders came back with a vengeance in singles play. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi won in straight sets on the bottom four courts to clinch the win. The top two courts were decided in three sets.
 
On No. 2, SLU's Flory Bierma (3-6, 1-3 Southland) lost a hard-fought 4-6, 6-1, 7-6 (7-1) decision to Camille Townsend. Insani (6-4, 2-2 Southland) was overcome by Mariya Shumeika on No. 1, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 to close the match.
