MATTHEWS, La. –
Playing in just his second tournament of the season, Southeastern Louisiana's William Meyers finished tied for second shooting -11 at the LaTour Intercollegiate Tournament after a final round 68 (-4) Tuesday at LaTour Country Club.

Meyers, a senior, was razor sharp as he compiled four birdies and no bogeys in the final round. The Baton Rouge, Louisiana native opened the final round with eight pars and a birdie on the first nine holes. Meyers then birdied three out of five holes to start the back nine as he pulled into a tie for first place at -11 with three holes to go.

Abilene Christian's Alex Crouse, however, birdies four of his final six holes to pull away from Meyers and three others at -11, finishing the tournament at -14 to claim the title.

"It was just good to get out and play again" said Meyers. "And to be in contention late like that and play well, I couldn't have asked for more."

Meyers was terrific all three rounds as he posted a 67 (-5) in the first round and a 70 (-2) in the second round. He finished the tournament with 13 birdies, two eagles, 35 pars and just six bogeys.

"For him to play a final round in contention and be bogey free showed he was in complete control of his emotions." said SLU golf head coach Jake Narro. "I can't wait for him to get another crack at playing because he was terrific."

Abilene Christian also won the team title as they posted a team total of -44 with Central Arkansas finishing second at -31. The Lions finished 12th at +6.

Southeastern will be back in action Monday and Tuesday March 2-3 at the Toyota Invitational in Lake Charles, Louisiana hosted by McNeese.
