Jake Narro

Jake Narro is entering his seventh season as the Lions’ head golf coach in 2021-22.

Despite last year's 8th place finish, SLU had finished fifth or higher in the Southland Conference Tournament three times under Narro.

Last season, he guided the Lions to a fourth place finish in the Southland Conference Championship and a season-opening win at the Battle of New Orleans. Former Lion Joris Etlin was also named Southland Conference Golfer of the Month for September under Narro's guidance. 

In his second season in 2016-17, James Anstiss, Paul Obermann and William Meyers were named to the All-Southland Conference team as the Lions placed fifth at the conference tournament and had eight top-10 finishes overall, including second-place finishes at the Jim West Intercollegiate and LSU Tiger Classic.
    
In the classroom, Southeastern a grade point average of 3.09 with Obermann being named the Southland Conference Golf Student-Athlete of the Year. The program also donated over 130 hours of service back to the community.

During his initial season in 2015-16, Narro led Southeastern to a second-place finish at the Southland Conference Tournament and a No. 95 national ranking. The Lions also finished second at the LSU Tiger Classic and had nine top 10 finishes. Southeastern’s 11-under-par 273 in the third round of the Sam Hall Intercollegiate was the second-best round in school history.

Narro, a long-time PGA golf professional, was named Southeastern’s head golf coach on Aug. 31, 2015. He came to Southeastern after most recently serving as the golf pro at the Country Club of Louisiana in Baton Rouge. 

Narro has also served as a professional at the Bayou Oaks Golf Club, Lakewood Country Club, Riverlands Country Club and Beau Chene Golf and Racquet Club. He was the golf professional at Oak Knoll Country Club in Hammond for 10 years.

As a player, Narro was twice been named the Gulf States Section Player of the Year (2003 and 2012). During his career, Narro won six Gulf States Section championships (2000, 2002, 2008, 2011, 2012 and 2014).

Narro, who earned his degree in general studies from SLU in 2014, has family ties to Southeastern. His wife, Dr. Amber Narro, is an associate professor in the SLU Department of Languages and Communication and will serve as a volunteer coach for the golf team in 2016-17. 

Two of his five children, his son Shayne and daughter Alex, are SLU graduates. The Narros are also the parents of Blane, Harris and Olivia.
