Louisiana Tech Shuts Out Lions

LAFAYETTE, La. – Louisiana Tech scored a pair of two-out runs in the eighth, shutting out Southeastern Louisiana, 2-0, Saturday evening at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field at Russo Park.

Southeastern (1-1) pitching kept the Bulldog (2-0) hitters at bay, allowing just one hit between the third and seventh innings.

Justin Simanek (0-1) struck out the first hitter in the eighth before issuing a walk and hitting a batter. Right-hander Noah Hughes relieved Simanek, but both runners advanced on a passed ball before he induced a ground ball to third for the second out. The Lions intentionally walked a left-handed batter to load the bases before Tech designated hitter Adarius Myers lined a two-run single to right field.

The Lions had opportunities, stranding runners in scoring position in the third, fourth, sixth and eighth innings and left the bases loaded in the fifth.

Simanek suffered the loss, allowing a pair of runs in 3.1 innings of relief. He allowed one hit and walked one, striking out four. Simanek also hit three batters.

The shutout loss is the first for the Lions since falling 9-0 at Oklahoma State, March 15, 2019.

Southeastern returns to action Tuesday at 6 p.m., hosting No. 24-ranked UL Lafayette in its 2020 home opener at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field. The game is a Cane's Challenge contest and the first 300 fans through the gate Tuesday will receive a "LionUp or Leave" rally towel.
