HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana women's basketball team will hit the road for the first time in 2020-21 this week, competing in the 33^rd Annual Lady Eagle Thanksgiving Classic, on Friday and Saturday at Reed Green Coliseum on the Southern Miss campus.  
 
SLU (1-0) will open the tournament on Friday with a 6 p.m. game versus Troy (0-0), before facing host USM (0-0) on Saturday at 5 p.m.
 
Friday's game can be heard live in the Hammond area on KSLU-FM (90.9), online at LionSports.net/listenlive and via the TuneIn Radio and Lions Gameday Experience apps, while both of the Lady Lions' games in Hattiesburg will be video streamed live (subscription required) at www.conferenceusa.com.
 
Southeastern opened the season on Wednesday with a dominant 99-65 victory over Alcorn State, earning its first season-opening victory since 2011-12 and its most lopsided win in a season opener since 2001-02.
 
SLU shot 64.2 percent (34-for-53) from the field, 65.0 percent (13-for-20) from three-point range and 85.7 percent (18-for-21) from the free throw line in Wednesday's win. The Lady Lions' scoring output in the opener was the program's highest since a 113-53 win over Millsaps in the 2009-10 season.
 
Southeastern's efficiency came in a balanced effort. In her Lady Lion debut, Bryana Langford came off the bench with 18 points, while Chrissy Brown (14 points), Hailey Giaratano (13 points), Natalie Kelly (13 points) and Breonca Ducksworth (11 points) chipped in to give SLU a quintet of double-digit scorers.
 
Much of Southeastern's damage came from behind the arc. Brown (4-for-4), Langford (4-for-5) and Giaratano (3-for-4) all had multiple successful three-point tries.
 
SLU shared the ball well in Wednesday's victory, finishing with 20 assists as a team. Ducksworth and Cierria Cunningham shared team-high honors with five assists apiece.
 
Southeastern was also able to control the glass in the victory over the visiting Lady Braves. The Lady Lions finished with a 33-22 rebounding edge, as Brown and Kelly paced the effort with nine and eight rebounds, respectively.
 
Troy, which will be opening the season on Friday versus SLU, finished 25-4 overall with a 16-2 mark in Sun Belt Conference play. Jasmine Robinson (11.7 points per game in 2019-20) and Alexius Dye (10.1 ppg, 9.6 rpg) are the top returners for the Trojans.
 
Southeastern is 3-3 all-time versus Troy. The two teams last met during the 2015-16 season with the Lady Trojans earning a 100-90 victory.
 
SLU will close the tournament versus the host Golden Eagles, who will face Alabama A&M in their season opener on Wednesday. Kelsey Jones is the top returning scorer (9.5 ppg) and rebounder (5.9 rpg) from last season's Southern Miss team.
 
SLU has a 5-7 all-time record versus USM. USM outlasted Southeastern, 62-54, last season in Hattiesburg.

Following the Lady Eagles Thanksgiving Classic, Southeastern will take over a week off before returning to action. On Dec. 8, SLU will travel to face Southland Conference rival Stephen F. Austin in a 6:30 p.m. non-conference game in Nacogdoches, Texas. The game will air on ESPN+.
