HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana women's basketball team will continue its three-game home stand on Wednesday, welcoming Southland Conference co-leader Sam Houston State to the University Center for a 7 p.m. league matchup.
 
The Southeastern Sports Network will offer a free video stream of the contest between the Lady Lions (5-8, 2-2 Southland) and the visiting Bearkats (9-4, 4-0 Southland). Wednesday will also be a Cane's Challenge. If the Lady Lions score 60 or more points versus Sam Houston State, fans can redeem their game ticket or student coupon at their local participating Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers to receive a free combo with the purchase of another of equal or greater value.
 
Caitlyn Williams is Wednesday's Spotlight Player of the Game and the first 150 fans will receive a trading card featuring the Brusly, Louisiana native courtesy of PRIDE.
 
Southeastern picked up its biggest win of the season on Saturday, defeating Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, 48-44, and handing the Islanders their first Southland loss of the season. The Lady Lions forced AMCC into 20 turnovers and held the Islanders to their lowest scoring output of the 2019-20 season.
 
In the win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Southeastern was led by the trio of Celica Sterling, Jyar Francis and Alexius Horne, who all chipped in with 10 points apiece. Sterling leads the team with 13.7 points per game – good for sixth in the league – while Francis (11.0 ppg) and Horne (8.8 ppg) are the team's other top scorers.
 
Horne and Tyler Morrison each had three assists in Saturday's victory. Horne's 3.1 assists per contest rank her seventh in the Southland Conference.
 
SLU sank a season-high 10 three-point field goals in the win over the Islanders, as Sterling, Morrison, Horne, Francis and Morgan Carrier netted two apiece. Sterling's team-high 28 treys are the fifth-most in the Southland this season.
 
Williams led SLU with eight rebounds on Saturday. Her team-high 6.0 rebounds per contest rank her 14^th in the conference.
 
Francis had a game-high five steals in the win over the Islanders. Horne is currently eighth in the Southland with a team-high 2.0 steals per game. Morrison ranks eighth in school history with 140 career steals.
 
Sam Houston State carries a five-game winning streak and an unbeaten league mark into Wednesday's contest. The Bearkats have league wins over Northwestern State (78-67), New Orleans (78-46), McNeese (92-59) and Nicholls (87-71) to their credit in 2019-20.
 
Amber Leggett (15.5 ppg, 2^nd), Jaylonn Walker (11.9 ppg, 14^th) and Jennifer Oramas (11.2 ppg, 16^th) are all among the Southland scoring leaders for a Sam Houston State squad that is averaging 79.9 points per contest. Oramas is second in the league with 4.4 assists per outing.
 
La'Sha Haynes (6.5 rpg) and Kiera McKinney (6.1 rpg) are the top rebounders for SHSU. Leggett is third in the league with 34 steals, while McKinney's 19 blocked shots are second in the Southland.
 
Wednesday will be the 41st meeting between the Lady Lions and Bearkats with SLU holding a 21-19 advantage. SHSU has controlled the all-time series in recent years, winning 10 of the last 11 meetings between the two Southland rivals. Southeastern's last win came in the 2014-15 season.
