HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana women's tennis team will open the home portion of its spring schedule this weekend, hosting a pair of matches at the Southeastern Tennis Complex.
On Saturday, SLU (0-1) hosts Jackson State (2-1) for a 3 p.m. match. LSU Alexandria (0-2) visits Hammond on Sunday for a noon match.
Southeastern opened the spring last Saturday with a 4-0 loss at Tulane. In doubles play, the Lion pair of
Flory Bierma and
Kim Bohlen earned a 6-2 win on the No. 3 court.
Putri Insani and
Ximena Yanez teamed on No. 1, while
Kyra Akinnibi and
Katya Cornejo comprised the No. 2 duo for SLU.
The Lions went with a singles lineup of Insani (No. 1), Bierma (No. 2), Akinnibi (No. 3),
Polina Sleptsova (No. 4),
Teodora Mitrovic (No. 5) and Bohlen (No. 6) in the spring opener. The Green Wave won the match with singles wins on courts 2, 3 and 4, but Bohlen was up a set and Mitrovic held a 5-4 first-set lead when the match was halted.
Jackson State sandwiched wins over Eastern Illinois and Loyola (La.) around a 6-1 loss at UNO in its first three matches of the spring. LSU Alexandria opened the spring with a pair of losses at Northwestern State last Saturday.
