HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southeastern Louisiana men's golf team looks to build off a strong finish last year when they open the season at the Sam Hall Intercollegiate Tournament Monday and Tuesday at the Hattiesburg Country Club.
 
The tournament, hosted by Southern Miss, is a 15-team field including eight teams from the Southland Conference (SLU, Sam Houston State, Nicholls, Houston Baptist, McNeese, Central Arkansas, Incarnate Word and UNO). Also joining the field is Austin Peay, Oral Roberts, Missouri State, North Alabama, Samford and Troy.
 
The Lions, under fifth-year head coach Jake Narro, finished fourth in the Southland Conference Championship last season.  
 
Southeastern returns six players from last year's squad including seniors William Meyers and Grant Glorioso, juniors Logan Kuehn, Kris Kerr, Connor Wilson and Miller Maestri.
 
Kuehn, a Lake Charles, Louisiana native, is the leading returner finishing last year with a 75.21 stroke average. The St. Louis Catholic grad finished eighth in the conference championships.
 
Kerr finished last year with a 75.38 average. The Loranger, Louisiana product, helped the Lions to a season opening win at the Battle of New Orleans after finishing second overall. The Loranger High School grad lead the team with 71 birdies.
 
Maestri also has potential to be the leader for SLU. The Baton Rouge, Louisiana native shot a final round, 67, a career high, at the 2018 Sam Hall Tourney.
 
"We're definitely excited about the season," said Narro. "We may start off a little slow with some guys a little banged up with injuries. But that will give some of the other guys a chance to play which is only going to make us tougher."
 
SLU will play a practice round beginning Sunday at 10 a.m. in preparation for the 36-hole tournament which begins at 8:30 a.m. Monday.
