BATON ROUGE, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana cross country team will be back in action Friday night at the LSU Invitational at Highland Road Park.
Â
Both the women and men will run a 5K race with the women starting at 5 p.m. and the men at 5:45 p.m. with both races including LSU, SLU, Nicholls, Southern and Tulane.
Â
Sophie Daigle leads the charge for the SLU women going into Friday's race. The junior has finished in the top 10 in both races this year. The Donaldsonville, Louisiana native placed fifth in the season-opening race at McNeese (3K) and finished sixth at the Rice Invitational (4K).
Â
On the men's side,
Adam Cortez has been the front runner for the Lions. The junior  finished sixth in the first two races of the season at McNeese and Rice 6K.
Anthony Cordero has been good as well. The junior finished second at the Rice Invitational and 17
th at McNeese.
Â
"We are excited to see how the team is progressing," said SLU cross country head coach
Corey Mistretta. "Training sessions have been good, so we are looking forward to some good results. We are specifically interesting in seeing how our number four and number five run on the women's side. If they can keep improving and move closer to our number three, it will pay good dividends later in the season. The men's team is still struggling with a few injuries we are trying to overcome. But the group is training really well as a whole. The young guys continue to improve and we expect Adam and Tony (
Anthony Cordero) to run well again. Both men and women are excited about being able to go run fast over the 5k course."
Â
Live results of Friday's race will be available at the Southeastern Cross Country schedule page.
Â
After Friday's race, Southeastern will have over two weeks to prepare for the next event. SLU will compete in the Mississippi College Invitational Saturday, Oct. 12 Â Â
