FRISCO, Texas – The Southeastern Louisiana University men's and women's cross country teams were honored by the Southland Conference Thursday, when six of its student-athletes were named to the SLC's All-Academic Team.
Sophomore
Tanner Salsman and freshman
D'Juan Joseph were the two representatives for the Lions. In the classroom, Salsman posted a 3.55 GPA as an engineering major. On the course, the Harvey, La. native put together a career-best season with four personal-best times, including a 34:56.5 time at the NCAA Division I South-Central Region Cross Country Championships.
In his first season in the green and gold, Joseph established a 3.28 GPA as a kinesiology major. The Ponchatoula, La. native had his best finish at the Nicholls Invitational, taking a 23:35.4 time in the four-mile run for 32
nd place.
Four Lady Lions made the All-Academic team with
Ava Pitarro,
Callie Arthur,
JoAnna Cornette, and Nikola Vimmerova having success on and off the cross-country course. Pitarro and Arthur both earned 4.0 GPAs. Pitarro, the junior biology major, also posted a personal-best mark of 23:17.3 in the six-kilometer run at the Southland Conference Championships.
In her freshman season, Arthur, majoring in elementary education, notched a season-best performance of 26:14.0 in the five-kilometer run at the Nicholls Invitational. The sophomore Cornette earned a 3.94 GPA. The English major ended the five-kilometer run at Nicholls in 15
th place, recording a time of 20:51.5. In her junior season, Vimmerova earned a 3.90 GPA as a general studies major. The Pilsen, Czech Republic native had a career-best performance in the six-kilometer race at the SLC Championships, earning a 26:05.8 mark.
Southeastern is set to start the indoor track and field season next week, when the men's and women's teams visit Baton Rouge, La. for the LSU Purple Tiger Meet, Friday, Jan. 16, at 9 a.m.
