Pitarro, Salsman Lead Southeastern at Southland Championships

SLU standouts continue to be top performers for respective teams at SLC meet

NATCHITOCHES, La. – Tanner Salsman and Ava Pitarro were the top finishers for the Southeastern Louisiana University men's and women's cross country teams at the Southland Conference Championships Friday morning on the Northwestern State University campus.

On the women's side, Pitarro covered the 6K course in a team-best time of 23:17.28 to finish 42nd. Nikola Vimmerova (26:05.82, 77th), JoAnna Cornette (26:43.14, 78th), Mya Parker (26:58.47, 79th) and Callie Arthur (33:22.74, 82nd) were the other participants for the Lady Lions, who finished in 11th place.

Salsman's 8K time of 25:42.91 paced the Lions and was good for a 65th-place finish. Matthew Norman (26:19.13, 77th), Landen Schillage (27:14.84, 83rd), Matthew Berthelot (28:24.89, 93rd) and D'Juan Joseph (28:42.41, 96th) also represented the Southeastern men in a 12th-place showing.

Stephen F. Austin swept the team championships in both the men's and women's competitions. SFA's Nathan Kapel won the men's race, while the women's individual championship went to Elizabeth Khatevi of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.

The NCAA South Central Region Championships is set for Nov. 15 in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
