HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Lance Yates shot a 72 (+1) for the Southeastern Louisiana golf team Tuesday in the final round of the Sam Hall Intercollegiate Tournament at Hattiesburg Country Club.
 
Play was halted Monday early in the second round. When play resumed Tuesday the Lions were unable to make up ground in the team standings but finished the day with some solid individual performances.
 
Yates, a freshman, completed his second round strongly as well. However, the day didn't start particular well for The Baton Rouge, Louisiana native. He started the day with a double-bogey on the sixth hole, but rallied with 10 pars and two birdies over the last 12 holes to finish the round with a 73 (+2).
 
Yates continued his rock solid play in the final round. He scattered five birdies, four bogeys and one double bogey to finish the last 18 holes with a 72 (+1). He finished +6 overall for the tournament in his collegiate debut.
 
SLU's Kris Kerr shot a 74 (+3) while Connor Wilson and Logan Kuehn each finished with a 75 (+4) for the final round.
 
"We had some good individual performances here and there," said fifth-year SLU golf head coach Jake Narro. "But team wise we did not play well and have to get a lot better. It's that simple."
 
Sam Houston State took home the team championship with an overall score of -33 while SHSU's Noah Steele won the individual championship shooting -18.
 
Southeastern will be back on the course Monday at the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate Tournament in Ruston, Louisiana.
