MCKINNEY, Texas – The Southeastern Louisiana golf team finished fourth at the 2019 Southland Conference Championship at Stonebridge Ranch Country Club.
 
SLU's Joris Etlin, a senior, had the lead after the first round shooting a -1 (71). The Frejus, France native, started the second round with five straight pars before bogeys on three of the next four holes. The Southland Conference Golfer of the Month for September rallied to shoot -1 on the final seven holes including an eagle. He shot 74 for the second round putting him in second place entering the final round. Etlin finished the tournament tied for 8^th with teammate Logan Kuehn.
 
Kuehn, a sophomore, shot a +2 (74) in the second round before shooting a 75 in the final round. The Lake Charles, Louisiana native tallied a three day total of 224 (+8) to tie Etlin.
 
"We got to play in the hunt," said SLU golf head coach Jake Narro. "We got a chance to play in the leader group and that's going to help us moving forward. Unfortunately we didn't finish the deal like we hoped but we will feel pretty good about the performance tomorrow. But it will sting tonight."
 
Sam Houston State's Noah Steele shot a -4 (68) in the second round to take the tournament lead. The junior from Kingtston, Canada, went on to claim the individual title shooting -3 for the tournament in route to leading SHSU to their second straight team conference title.  McNeese's Blake Elliot finished runner up for the second straight year shooting even par (216) for the tourney.
 
With the win, Sam Houston will advance to the NCAA regional in Athens, Georgia, beginning May 12.
 
SLU's season concludes as Etlin and senior Bailey Smith played their final tournament for the Lions.
