HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana women's tennis team will open the road portion of its 2018-19 Southland Conference schedule with a pair of league matches this week.
The Lions (3-6, 0-1 Southland) open the trip on Friday, facing Lamar (3-8, 0-1 Southland). Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (6-3, 0-1 Southland) awaits SLU on Sunday. First serve for both matches is 11 a.m.
Southeastern opened Southland Conference play with a narrow 4-3 loss to Abilene Christian last Friday in Hammond. The Lions took the lead with wins on the top two doubles courts. However, ACU rallied to take four of six singles matches to earn the victory in a competitive league contest that featured three three-set singles matches.
Putri Insani (4-2) is the top singles player for the Lions.
Ceci Mercier (3-2),
Ximena Yanez (2-0),
Katya Cornejo (2-4) and
Flory Bierma (2-5) also have multiple singles victories this spring.
Insani and Yanez lead Southeastern in doubles with a 3-2 record on the No. 1 court. The new team of Mercier and
Vicky Scholz won in their debut versus ACU.
Lamar heads into Friday's match looking for its first Southland victory of the spring. Last week, the Cardinals dropped a 5-2 decision to Central Arkansas.
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi will open its weekly schedule on Friday, hosting McNeese in a matchup of last season's co-regular season champions. The Islanders took a 4-3 loss at the hands of Northwestern State in their 2018-19 league debut.
Following this week's action, Southeastern will return home to host McNeese on Saturday, March 16 at noon at the Southeastern Tennis Complex.
