GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Southeastern Louisiana men's 4x400 relay team finished sixth in the finals of the Florida Relays Saturday at James G. Pressley Stadium.
The team of
Tahrike Jones,
Gerald Coleman,
James Benson II and
Donovan Storr ran a blazing, 3:08.16.
"They were the story of the weekend," said SLU track head coach
Corey Mistretta. "Those guys ran a huge season best against some of the nation's best competition. These guys continue to impress us with how they love to compete. I am excited about where this season will take them."
Purdue took home the men's 4x400 title while St. Augustine, Clemson, Maryland and Kentucky finished second, third, fourth and fifth. Host team Florida finished seventh and Iowa was eighth.
In the men's shot put,
Malik Burns set a personal best for the Lions throwing 54 feet, 2.5 inches (16.48m). The sophomore from Homer, Louisiana, now ranks fifth in the Southland.
For the women, the SLU 4x200 relay team had a good showing.

Taylor Mumford and Destinee Jeanpierre finished with a mark of 1:38.79, nearly three seconds faster than their previous high mark.
"We took some big steps forward today both in Florida and Mississippi (Southern Miss Invitational)," said Mistretta. "Some of our kids stepped up and performed better than they ever have. "It was also exciting to hear all the positive reports from Coach (Rocky) Capello with the distance group at Southern Mississippi. His young group continues to improve and grow up."
