Southeastern Prepares for Final Weekend of Regular Season

The Lions will take a week to prepare for the SLC Championships following this weekend

HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University men's and women's track & field teams will split up Saturday, for the East Coast Relays in Jacksonville, Fla. at Visit Jax Track at Hodges Stadium, and the Warhawk Classic in Monroe, La., at Brown Stadium.
 
The Lions are set to compete in the final weekend of competition before the teams take a week to prepare for the Southland Conference Track & Field Championships in Nacogdoches, Texas.
 
Southeastern returns to action this week after strong performances at the LSU Alumni Gold meet in Baton Rouge, La. Saturday. At 12:55 p.m. CDT, Onyah Favour will represent SLU at the East Coast Relays in the 400-meter dash after claiming the top time in the Southland with a sixth-place performance of 23.26 in the 200-meter dash. Favour, along with Breanna Becerra, Miriam Kauer, and Zoe Wilson, broke a school record in the 4x400-meter relay with a 3:40.29 mark, notching the third-best time by any SLC relay team.
 
On the men's side, Donald Butler posted a personal-best 2.11 meters (6'11") in the high jump at LSU, taking fifth in the event, while also posting the fifth-highest mark in the Southland this season. Gerrit Visser and Josh-Ty Brown claimed fourth and fifth-place finishes in their respective events. Visser's hammer throw of 60.14 (197'3") was just short of his personal-best mark. Brown finished the shot put with a throw of 17.12 meters (56'2").
 
Becerra, Kauer, Brown, Butler, Visser, along with several other Lions will make the trip to the Warhawk Classic in Monroe, seeking to improve their marks before the Southland Conference Championships.
 
Following competition this weekend, the Lions, will take a break as they prepare for the Southland Conference Championships, beginning Thursday, May 14, in Nacogdoches.
