HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana women's tennis team will close out its 2018-19 regular season road schedule this week with a pair of Southland Conference matches.

The Lions (5-8, 2-3 Southland) open the week's action with a 1 p.m. match on Friday at Central Arkansas (11-6, 3-1 Southland). On Sunday, league-leading Northwestern State (13-3, 5-0 Southland) awaits SLU for an 11 a.m. contest.

Southeastern is coming off a 1-1 week in Beaumont. The Lions opened the trip with a 6-1 victory over UIW, before dropping a hard-fought 5-2 decision to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.

Reigning Southland Conference Player of the Week Putri Insani (7-3, 4-1 Southland) boasts the team's best singles record this spring. Ceci Mercier (5-3, 2-2 Southland) also is above .500 this spring for the Lions.

SLU has won the doubles point in all five conference matches. The duos of Insani and Ximena Yanez (6-2, 4-0 Southland), Mercier and Vicky Scholz (5-0, 5-0 Southland), as well as Flory Bierma and Katya Cornejo (3-6, 1-1 Southland) comprise a formidable doubles lineup for the Lions.

Central Arkansas features three singles players with double-digit wins in Rada Manataweewat (11-4), Marli Van Heerden (11-5) and Yada Vasunpongchai (10-3). Vasunpongchai and Mei Ishimura boast a team-best 9-4 doubles mark.

Sunday's opponent, Northwestern State, also features a trio of top singles players in Judit Castillo (12-3), Ela Iwaniuk (11-3) and Rhea Verma (10-4). Castillo teams with Emilija Dancetovic (12-2) to lead NSU's doubles lineup.

Following this week's trip, Southeastern will close the regular season with four straight Southland home matches. The season-ending home stand starts with a 2 p.m. match versus New Orleans on Friday, April 5 at the Southeastern Tennis Complex.
